OUR HISTORY ......

.... starts in the year 1882, when Magnesia was freed from Turkish rule. A few years later, arriving in Volos from Pireaus where was working as a chair maker, Varvaris Papandreou, who was born on the island of Hydra, started working in Volos making chairs and teaching Volos people to sit.

He married and had three sons, Alekos, Theodoros and Fotis, who in their turn and working together have continued the trade that their father taught them, and they opened a factory.

After this, Aleco's sons Kostas, Varvaris and Georgos started their own factory. Also the sons of Theodoros Kostas and Giannis made their own factory and continued working up to a few years ago when they retired.

The current forth generation started by myself.

I was born in Volos and in my early years my family moved and lived in Athens where I was educated and worked for some years.

I then came back to Volos, more specifically, tothe village of Koropi, which is actually the birth place of my mother.

In 1976 I took over the business from my father and have continued working in this field of work, as no one else from the Papandreou family continued working in the trade that our predecessors taught us. We expanded the business, which until then concentrated on making only tables and chairs. Today, we have we also make all types of furniture for homes, hotel and pensions and for monasteries and churches.

This is our history to date, in a few words.

And now lets say few words about the furniture.

The making of furniture begins with the initial design. We carefully study the interior space of a house, and design the furniture according to the specific measurements, so it will fit in harmony with the highest aesthetic standards, the quality and the resistance on time, preserving at the same time its traditional character.

We always aim to bring the Greek traditions into our work, in order to blend in harmony within the modern house, where the furniture creates a cosy and relaxing atmosphere. We can create your living environment with a traditional distinguished appearance and the charm of authenticity, in a way that only a skilled traditional expert can perform.

Our furniture are made from Greek timber of chestnut, a wood with specific characteristics, which is long-lasting and has beautiful waves on its appearance. We also work with oak wood, which is known for its strength and longetivity.

The designs and the depictions that are carved on our furniture are taken from Greek traditions and nature. Strong symbols that are ageless during time and stay forever young as does the human soul.

The important stage of the furniture construction is its use and at this point we want to make a comment about the art of the hand made furniture.

Each piece must take into consideration the demands of its use which is designed for, and providing the highest of efficiency.

The beauty element and the aesthetic care are additional but not independent by the function of the furniture, because a person does not need to cover the practical function in their environment, but also needs beauty and harmony to lift the spirit.

All of our furniture is hand made.

A trained eye can tell the difference between manufactured furniture straight away. Looking carefully at the details and carvings, one can see the method that the hand of an expert works with, when trying to pass their soul to the wood. We take a lifeless piece of wood and transform it into a beautiful, useful and functioning piece of furniture, that showcases our talent and love for what we do.

All the above characteristics are the details that make our furniture collectable items, where their strength, beauty and value, would rise over time.
